GENTEX FORMS RELATIONSHIP WITH JAPANESE SALES AGENT

ZEELAND, Mich., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: GNTX), the Zeeland-based manufacturer of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors, recently entered an agreement with Continental Far East, Inc. (CFE) to act as its sales agent in Japan on a non-exclusive basis. Gentex has retained CFE to aid in generating additional sales of Gentex automatic-dimming Night Vision SafetyTM Mirrors (NVSTM) to automakers in Japan.
"Continental Far East has an excellent reputation for successfully assisting American auto component suppliers in selling their products to Asian automakers," Gentex Executive Vice President Kenneth La Grand said. "While Gentex has had some success in developing relationships with Japanese automakers, we believe that CFE's contacts and extensive knowledge of the Japanese automotive industry will expedite the process. CFE will provide a focused plan for Gentex business development in the highly competitive Japanese market, as well as technical and marketing support essential to selling the high-tech products Gentex manufactures."
The multi-year agreement allows CFE to act as Gentex Corporation's non-exclusive sales agent to automakers and exterior mirror manufacturers in Japan, with the exception of Nissan Motor Company and Ichikoh Industries, Ltd. Gentex has an existing distribution agreement with Ichikoh, under which Ichikoh currently is selling NVSTM Mirrors in Japan. That distribution agreement grants Ichikoh exclusive rights to sell the NVSTM Mirrors to Nissan.
Sensors and electronic circuitry in the patented Gentex Interior Night Vision SafetyTM Mirror detect headlight glare from following vehicles. When rear headlight glare is observed by the sensors, electricity is sent to the electrochromic gel in both the interior and exterior mirrors, which automatically darkens in proportion to the voltage. The degree of darkening is determined by the amount of glare detected by the sensors. Glare to the driver's eyes is minimized while rear vision is maximized.
Established in 1965 and headquartered in Tokyo, Continental Far East, Inc. is an international business development firm that operates mainly in the American/Japanese automotive and electronics industries. In 1989 CFE established an office in Detroit to secure business from Asian automakers in North America for its clients. Together the Tokyo and Detroit CFE offices serve as an overseas extension of its clients' marketing and engineering departments.
Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: GNTX) develops, manufactures and markets proprietary electro-optical products: patented automatic- dimming Interior and Exterior Night Vision SafetyTM Mirrors for the worldwide motor vehicle industry, and an extensive line of fire protection products for commercial applications.
Gentex was the first company in the world to produce a commercial electrochromic mirror for the motor vehicle industry, and is the leading supplier of these mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry.
