GENIE PRODUCTS EARN TOP HONORS AT THE NATIONAL HARDWARE SHOW

ALLIANCE, Ohio, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Genie Company received awards for two of its products at last month's National Hardware Show in Chicago. Genie's entirely new line of wet/dry utility vacs received a coveted "Retailers' Choice Award," and its premium 1/2-HP screw drive garage door opener earned first place honors in another competition which recognized package design.
GENIE'S WET/DRY VACS REALLY CLEAN UP
The "Retailers' Choice Award," sponsored by Do-It-Yourself Retailing, was presented to only 30 "best of show" winners of the thousands of new products on display. The members of the Retailers' Choice Committee include representatives from home center and hardware stores, and represent major buying influences in the hardware/home improvement industry. Members of the group select the award winners as they do their regular buying at the show. They look for innovative new products or repositioning of existing products with strong sales potential.
"The reason this award is so prestigious is that these products were selected by some of the industry's top retailers," said John Hammond, publisher of Do-It-Yourself Retailing. "Over the years, our committee members have consistently picked winners."
Earlier this year, national market research conducted by an independent market research firm found consumers preferred the new Genie Wet/Dry Vacs by nearly 2-to-1 over identically priced Shop Vac models with like horsepower, capacity and accessories.
"We are honored to receive the Retailers' Choice Award, and are very pleased that our new line has now proven itself to be preferred by both consumers and retailers," said Bennett S. Rubin, vice president of marketing and new business development for Genie.
Engineered from the ground up, the Genie Wet/Dry Vacs address specific consumer needs not previously met in this product category. "Customers said existing wet/dry vacs tip easily, are difficult to lift and empty, and have other problems making them difficult to use. Our new wet/dry vacs address all those issues, and obviously, both consumers and retailers agree," Rubin said.
GENIE GARAGE DOOR OPENER RECOGNIZED FOR SUPERIOR PACKAGING
Genie also received a first place award from the American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA) for the product packaging of its 1/2-HP GXL9500 Screw Drive Garage Door Opener. Merchandising experts from industry retailing and wholesaling organizations serve as judges for the Packaging Awards program. Entries are classified in eight product categories and eight merchandiser categories.
Chosen from more than 600 entries, Genie was recognized for "distinguished achievement in the development of superior packaging of hardlines products for sale at the consumer level," according to the AHMA. "We take the effectiveness and importance of good product packaging very seriously, and it's great to be recognized for providing a useful, informative package intended to assist consumers' purchasing decisions," Rubin said.
Headquartered in Alliance, Ohio, Genie is the largest manufacturer of American-made garage door openers. Additional product lines include gate openers, garage door hardware, wet/dry utility vacuums, portable blowers, hand-held vacuums and floor care systems.
