GENIE'S WET/DRY VACS NAMED ONE OF THE BEST VALUE HOME-IMPROVEMENT PRODUCTS FOR 1994

ALLIANCE, Ohio, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Genie Company's entirely new line of wet/dry utility vacuums has been chosen by Home Mechanix magazine as one of the best value home-improvement products for 1994, and will be recognized in the publication's December/January issue.
"We're always on the lookout for new products that will help our readers preserve and enhance the value of their homes," said Michael Chotiner, editor-in-chief, at Home Mechanix. "In selecting the best value home-improvement products for 1994, we took a hard look at the price tags of hundreds of new items and the benefits they offer. We also factored in each product's potential for fulfilling its purpose, durability, convenience, maintenance needs and, where appropriate, environmental considerations. We believe each of our selections offers something extra to help consumers make the most of their home- improvement resources."
Engineered from the ground up, the Genie Wet/Dry Vacs have recessed double-wheel casters and a distinctive trapezoid-shaped tank with a low center of gravity, making them virtually tip-proof, according to Home Mechanix.
"We are honored to be recognized by Home Mechanix, and are very pleased that our new line has been recommended by the leading publication for homeowners interested in making better consumer decisions when purchasing products for their home," said Bennett S. Rubin, Vice President of Marketing and New Business Development for Genie.
The Home Mechanix award marks the third time Genie's new Wet/Dry Vacs have been recognized as an innovative product that addresses specific consumer needs not previously met in this product category. Earlier this year, national market research conducted by an independent market research firm found consumers preferred the new Genie Wet/Dry Vacs by nearly 2-to-1 over identically priced Shop Vac(A) models with like horsepower, capacity and accessories. And, at the National Hardware Show in Chicago this past August, Genie's wet/dry utility vacuums received a coveted "Retailers' Choice Award" for innovative new products with strong sales potential.
Headquartered in Alliance, Ohio, Genie is the largest manufacturer of American-made garage door openers. Additional product lines include gate openers, garage door hardware, wet/dry utility vacuums, portable blowers, hand-held vacuums and floor care systems. Genie products are sold internationally through hardware stores, building supply centers, warehouse clubs, discount stores and catalog showrooms, as well as a network of professional installation dealers who sell, install and service its professional line of garage door openers.
Genie has manufacturing facilities in Alliance and Baltic, Ohio, and Shenandoah, Va.
