GENERON SYSTEMS TO PARTICIPATE IN TRADE MISSION TO UKRAINE TO INTRODUCE
 NON-CRYOGENIC NITROGEN GENERATING TECHNOLOGY
HOUSTON, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Generon Systems will participate in the very first U.S. Department of Commerce trade and investment mission on food processing and packaging technology to the newly independent state of Ukraine. Houston-based Generon Systems, a joint venture of The Dow Chemical Company and The BOC Group, will be in four cities in Ukraine from Sept. 1-11 including Kiev, Poltava, Semferopol, and Kherson.
Generon Systems' nitrogen generating hollow fiber membrane module technology is widely used for non-chemical food preservation for food packagers, storage and transportation industries. Atmospheric oxygen is a prime contributor to the degradation of packaged foods and stored vegetable and fruit products. Nitrogen is used to displace oxygen inside food packages and storage facilities to control the atmospheres around food products, retard spoilage and extend the saleable shelf life of the products.
Generon GL(R) membrane modules can separate large amounts of nitrogen from compressed air at ambient temperatures. Generon Systems has worked in the controlled atmosphere packaging, storage, and transportation of a number of food products including meat snacks, juices, and fruit and vegetable warehouse storage and transportable systems on board ships and in port locations. "We made the decision to go on this mission based on the need for non-chemical and non-cryogenic nitrogen in the food preservation industry in the Ukraine," said Mike Porter, president and chief executive officer of Generon Systems.
The Ukraine, which has a land mass about the size of France and approximately 52 million people, is famous as one of the world's great food producing and food processing regions. However, much of its food production is lost due to the general lack of modern food processing, packaging and transportation equipment. "Our technology and experience with controlled atmosphere food storage, packaging and transportation and the apparent need for advanced technology make Generon Systems uniquely positioned to leverage this opportunity to everyone's mutual benefit," Porter said.
