 GENERAL SIGNAL ELECTS TWOMBLY VICE PRESIDENT & TREASURER
 STAMFORD, Conn., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- General Signal Corporation (NYSE: GSX) announced today that Julian "Jay" B. Twombly was elected corporate vice president & treasurer. Twombly will report to Stephen W. Nagy, General Signal's senior vice president - finance and chief financial officer.
 Twombly joins General Signal with 20 years of financial management experience. He was most recently senior vice president and treasurer for United Dominion Industries, Ltd. (Charlotte, N.C.) where he held various posts during the past 18 years. His previous association was with Arthur Andersen & Co., as a small business consultant.
 Twombly holds a B.A. degree from St. Lawrence University and an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Dartmouth College. He and his family will be relocating to the Connecticut area.
 General Signal Corporation, with 1990 sales of $1.69 billion, is a leading manufacturer of equipment for the process control, electrical, semiconductor and telecommunications industries.
