GENERAL SIGNAL ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT REALIGNMENT AT GCA

 STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 20 ~PRNewswire~ -- General Signal Corporation (NYSE: GSX) announced today a realignment of senior management at GCA, the company's Andover, Mass.-based manufacturer of photolithography wafer stepper equipment, according to Neil Bonke, president of semiconductor equipment operations for General Signal.
 Robert Carey has been named acting president of GCA, replacing President Peter Simone, who has accepted another position outside the semiconductor industry.
 As the company's senior vice president, Carey led the GCA's successful XLS stepper development program, which introduced a new generation of microlithography equipment. Prior to joining GCA in 1988, Carey was with Amray, Inc. and served with Philips, N.V. in various technical and managerial positions for 17 years. He will report to Mr. Bonke.
 Dr. John Bruning, GCA~Tropel president, will also report directly to Mr. Bonke. Dr. Bruning is an internationally recognized lithographer and was manager of advanced lithography systems at Bell Labs before joining GCA in 1984.
 "GCA~Tropel will ramp up production of its recently announced wide field laser lithography lens (Thistle) while continuing to expand its other commercial business in the areas of precision optics and metrology systems," Mr. Bonke said.
 General Signal Corporation, with 1991 sales of $1.6 billion, is a leading manufacturer of equipment and instruments for the process control, electrical, semiconductor, and telecommunications industries.
