GENERAL MOTORS UPDATE ON VEHICLE ASSEMBLY PLANTS AFFECTED BY THE WORK STOPPAGE AT DELPHI CHASSIS IN DAYTON, OHIO

WARREN, Mich., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- As of 1:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, March 9, 1996, GM has eight vehicle assembly plants affected by the strike at Delphi Chassis in Dayton, Ohio. The next update concerning the status of GM vehicle assembly plants will be issued at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11. The update will be on PR Newswire and GM's Media Online page on the World Wide Web.

Beyond the following list, GM will not speculate on when or which assembly plants could be affected.

The following plants have been added to the list of those vehicle assembly operations impacted by the work stoppage in Dayton, Ohio:

Hamtramck, Michigan (Detroit) -- produces Cadillac Seville,

Eldorado, Deville.

Affects approximately 3,100 employees

Wentzville, Missouri -- produces Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Affects approximately 1,500 employees

The following vehicle assembly operations remain shut down:

Shreveport, Louisiana -- produces Chevrolet S-Series and GMC Sonoma

pickup trucks.

Affects approximately 2,300 employees

Lordstown, Ohio -- produces Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire.

Affects approximately 4,500 employees

Wilmington, Delaware -- produces Chevrolet Corsica and Beretta.

Affects approximately 2,000 employees

Oshawa, Ontario, Canada -- produces Chevrolet Lumina and Monte Carlo

and Buick Regal on two assembly lines.

Affects approximately 6,500 employees

Orion Township -- produces Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency, Eighty

Eight Royale, Aurora, Buick Riviera, Pontiac Bonneville.

Affects approximately 3,600 employees

Lansing, Michigan -- Produces Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Achieva,

Pontiac Grand Am and Chevrolet Cavalier on two assembly lines.

Affects approximately 6,000 employees
