 COMMENT BY J.B. FITZPATRICK
VICE PRESIDENT OF GM'S COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING STAFF
Strong new vehicle sales in June helped GM achieve its highest monthly total in two years. For the first half of 1992, GM vehicle sales were 4.2 percent ahead of last year's pace. Saturn, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Cadillac posted year-to-year improvements in passenger car sales, contributing to an expected gain in car market share for the month and for the first six months of the calendar year.
Strengthening auto sales are a sign of increased consumer confidence in the economy. With the recent reduction in short-term interest rates, we expect to see even stronger vehicle sales in second half of the year.
