 COMMENT BY J.B. FITZPATRICK,
VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING STAFF
For the second straight month, the U.S. automotive industry will be reporting an increase in new car and truck sales. This year-to-year improvement in the first two months of 1992 offers a hopeful sign that the economy is about to pick up and that a steady improvement in new vehicle sales will continue.
During February, GM's 4.5 percent sales gain was equally split between cars and trucks, with each segment registering a similar year- to-year increase. For the second straight month, higher truck sales were reported by all four of GM's truck selling divisions, while GM's passenger car volume in February was up due to strong retail sales performances by Cadillac, Pontiac and Saturn.
