GENERAL MOTORS ENHANCES LEADERSHIP IN AUTOMOTIVE SAFETY

WARREN, Mich., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM) enhances its position as an industry leader in automotive safety in the 1994 model year with expanded use of air bags, ABS bakes, and traction control on its cars and trucks.
-- In the 1994 model year, including mid-year introduction, 30 of 33 GM car lines will be equipped with standard air bags.
-- Dual driver and passenger-side air bags will be on 19 GM car lines in 1994 (including mid-year introductions).
-- All passenger vans have driver-side air bags standard in '94.
-- By the middle of calendar-year 1994, GM expects to produce its 7 millionth air bag-equipped vehicle -- more than any other auto maker in the world. Production plans call for the manufacture of more than 3 million air bag-equipped vehicles during the 1994 model year alone -- about 1 million of those will have both driver and passenger air bags.
-- In 1994, GM expects to produce more ABS-equipped vehicles than all other domestic manufacturers combined. ABS brakes are offered on all GM domestically produced car and truck lines in 1994.
-- All GM vans and trucks have ABS brakes standard -- rear-wheel anti-lock on C-K pickups, Tracker, and 4-cylinder S-10 and Sonoma pickups -- 4-wheel anti-lock on all other vans and trucks.
-- Traction control is standard or optional on 16 of GM's 1994 car lines.
