GENERAL MOTORS ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF FIRST MULTI-CITY DISTRIBUTOR
OF NORTH AMERICAN VEHICLES IN THE SOVIET UNION
DETROIT, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM) today announced the signing of the Trinity Group as its first multi-city distributor of North American vehicles in the Soviet Union. Trinity will sell selected North American-built cars, trucks and parts as well as providing full customer service in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the Russian Republic, and Kiev in the Ukraine.
The Trinity Group is a joint venture company between Trinity of the Soviet Union and the March/West Automotive Group headquartered in Southfield, Mich.
"This is a good partnership," said Greg DeYonker, GM executive director of business development for the Soviet Union. "With Trinity's automotive experience, it enables GM to establish a competitive position in this developing market."
The Trinity Group will sell selected Chevrolet, Pontiac and Cadillac models as well as a range of light-duty Chevrolet trucks. Sales projections for the 1992 calendar year are expected to reach between 1,000 and 1,500 units. The first shipment of GM N.A. vehicles should be available for sale in Moscow during the first quarter of 1992.
"Trinity has an excellent showroom in Pushkin Square in Moscow," continued DeYonker, " and their operations position them favorably to handle vehicle distribution in Kiev and St. Petersburg."
DeYonker said that discussions with other dealer candidates in the Soviet Union and the Baltic countries are under way and could be finalized before year-end, with sales activity starting in the first half of 1992.
In October, GM's Adam Opel of Germany announced the opening of its first dealer in Moscow. In June, 1990, GM and the Volga Auto Works (VAZ) of Togliatti signed an agreement for GM to provide engine management and emission control systems for VAZ-produced Lada vehicles.
