GENERAL MOTORS AND EMPLOYEES CONTRIBUTE $9.4 MILLION TO UNITED WAY

 DETROIT, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Top executives of General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM) and the United Auto Workers announced that General Motors and its employees contributed more than $9.4 million to the 1993 United Way of Southeastern Michigan campaign.
 The total contribution includes $8,299,500 from Detroit- and Pontiac-area GM employees. Combined with the $1,140,000 contribution from the GM Foundation, employee pledges and contributions totaled $9,439,500.
 Co-chairmen of GM's 1993 campaign, Gerald A. Knechtel, GM vice president of personnel for North American Operations, and Stephen P. Yokich, GM UAW vice president, congratulated GM employees for their donations.
 "It is extremely gratifying to see so many people willing to sacrifice in order to help those neighbors and communities who need the support of people who care," Knechtel and Yokich said. "We appreciate the hard work put in by hundreds of GM people throughout the Detroit area. It is their hard work that resulted in making this year's campaign such a success."
