GENERAL COMPUTER REPORTS IMPROVED FINANCIAL RESULTS
AND ADDS ROBERT J. BOLGER TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
TWINSBURG, Ohio, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- General Computer Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS: GCCC) today announced further growth in revenues, net earnings and earnings per share for the fiscal third quarter and nine-month period, which ended Feb. 29, 1992. Financial performance was favorably influenced by continued growth in claims processing and a third quarter rebound in system sales.
Sales for the quarter were $3.4 million, up 23 percent from last year's $2.8 million. Claims processing revenue led the way, increasing 48 percent to $1.8 million compared to $1.2 million last year. System sales, while still not up to expectations, increased 30 percent to $648,000 over the depressed levels of $499,000 in the prior year quarter and $326,000 in the trailing quarter. Net earnings of $230,000, or 14 cents per share, in this year's quarter were almost 10 times last year's $24,000, or 2 cents per share.
"Claims processing revenues continue to grow as more providers of prescription drug benefits convert their programs to the more efficient and cost effective electronic mode," stated Richard R. Pilarczyk, president and chief executive officer. "With the current interest in making health care available to a greater number of people yet at a lower cost, we are well positioned to benefit by being a part of this process," he continued.
For the nine-month period, sales were $9.7 million, up 3 percent from last year's $9.3 million. Net earnings were $296,000, or 18 cents per share, for the fiscal 1992 period compared to $94,000, or 6 cents per share, in last year's period. The fiscal 1992 nine-month period includes a charge of $150,000, or 10 cents per share, related to the settlement of litigation as discussed last quarter.
General Computer also announced that Robert J. Bolger, retired president of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, has been named to the Company's Board of Directors. "The addition of a person of Bob Bolger's stature and experience in the retail pharmacy industry will benefit us greatly and will enable us to be of even greater service to pharmacies and other providers as they continue to cope with the ever-changing health care environment," Pilarczyk concluded.
General Computer Corporation is a leading developer of electronic systems and services for pharmacies and the health care industry.

 (1) The Company agreed to settle a claim against a former customer relating to a 1986 sales transaction rather than expend the time and legal fees to litigate the claim. Provisions had previously been made in the financial statements for the expected impact. The additional write-off, in the opinion of management, is less than the cost of litigation would have been.
 (2) The Company has operating loss carryforwards available, therefore, no provision was made for Federal income taxes.
