GENERAL COMPUTER AWARDED CONTRACT BY EMPLOYEE BENEFIT PLANS, INC.
TO PROCESS 7-8 MILLION CLAIMS ANNUALLY
TWINSBURG, Ohio, Aug. 11 / PRNewswire/ -- General Computer Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS: GCCC) announced today that it has signed a multi-year contract for on-line third-party pharmacy claims adjudication for Employee Benefit Plans, Inc., Minneapolis, one of the nation's largest employee-benefit management firms.
The contract calls for implementation to begin immediately. General Computer said it expects to handle annualized volume of 7-8 million claims from EBP's participating pharmacies when volume reaches its full level early in calendar 1993.
Employee Benefit Plans (EBP) provides self-funded benefit programs to more than 2,700 employers covering more than 1.8 million subscribers nationwide.
"We are extremely proud to have been awarded this contract by EBP," said Richard R. Pilarczyk, president and chief executive officer of General Computer. "Under the agreement, General Computer will provide all the sophisticated processing capabilities that EBP requires, including capturing claims transmitted electronically by pharmacies as well as performing full adjudication of the claims on-line and in real time. General Computer will organize and manage the nationwide pharmacy network for EBP's Managed Care Prescription Program."
"Employee Benefit Plans selected General Computer because of its extensive capabilities and flexibility to custom design products for our target markets," stated Robert P. Brook, senior vice president of sales and marketing for EBP. "They will provide complete prospective and retrospective drug utilization review and analysis through its Solution/2000 on-line claims processing system. General Computer will also be responsible for enrolling pharmacies to participate as authorized providers to Employee Benefit Plan programs."
Pilarczyk added, "General Computer's claims processing service business has shown excellent growth over the past two years. We expect this new contract will increase our overall claims volume by approximately 15 percent while nearly doubling our claims adjudication business, with only a small increase in expenses necessary to manage this new volume."
General Computer Corporation, founded in 1970, is a leading provider of systems, software services and electronic data interchange for healthcare. The company has more than 5,000 pharmacy systems installed in all 50 states and is electronically linked to more than 85 percent of the nation's pharmacies for third party claims processing.
