GENERAL COMPUTER ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF PHARMACY COMPUTER
DEVELOPER AND STRATEGIC ALLIANCE WITH NATIONAL DRUG DISTRIBUTOR
TWINSBURG, Ohio, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- General Computer Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS: GCCC) announced today that it has acquired Mavis Industries, Inc. (doing business as Mavis Computer Systems) in a stock transaction. Terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 1977 and privately owned, Mavis provides computer systems and services to pharmacies and has a customer base of about 350 pharmacies, principally in California. In its most recent year, Mavis reported revenues of approximately $1.5 million and was profitable.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to add the expertise, longevity and excellent reputation in pharmacy which Mavis brings," said Richard R. Pilarczyk, General Computer's president and chief executive officer. "With this acquisition, we are more firmly established as a major provider of pharmacy systems on the West Coast, especially in California, which is important to our long range plans."
In a separate but market-related development, Pilarczyk announced the formation of a strategic alliance with Whitmire Distribution Corporation, a national pharmaceutical wholesaler headquartered in Folsom, Calif. Through the alliance, both Whitmire and General Computer will market a fully integrated, totally automated pharmacy management system. The new system, named Otis(R), combines the widely used order tracking and inventory system from Whitmire with the extensive pharmacy management capabilities of General Computer.
"Because of their proximity, the Mavis acquisition and Whitmire alliance create powerful new synergies for General Computer," Pilarczyk continued.
"Through the Whitmire relationship, the talents and expertise of two highly successful organizations are teamed together as the single-source provider of pharmaceuticals, systems, services and support for pharmacies nationwide. For the first time, a completely integrated, yet modular system is available which addresses all aspects of managing a pharmacy. The system and its optional components include inventory replenishment, order tracking, automatic and manual reordering, complete price and acquisition cost updating, point of sale, electronic claims processing, prescription/profile and interaction monitoring, physician access, patient education with monographs, nursing home and compliance monitoring components, training/support and electronic data base updates. Additional components for price modeling, mail order, word processing, report generator, hardware maintenance, electronic claims billing and reconciliation are also available with Otis. We are excited about this alliance because it enables every pharmacy whether retail or hospital, chain or independent to fully automate its operation from a single source supplier," said Pilarczyk.
Otis will be jointly marketed by both Whitmire Distribution and General Computer.
Whitmire Distribution Corporation is a privately held national pharmaceutical wholesaler serving over 7,000 pharmacies. With 31 regional distribution centers, Whitmire serves its clients located in 38 states.
General Computer Corporation, founded in 1970, is a leading provider of systems, software, services and EDI for healthcare. The company has more than 5,000 pharmacy systems located in all 50 states. Additionally, the company is currently linked to approximately 85 percent of the nations pharmacies for electronic and third party claim processing.
