GENERAL AMERICAN FORMS ALLIANCE WITH CHEMICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT

 CHICAGO, Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- General American Transportatio n Corporation, a subsidiary of GATX Corporation, Chicago, and Chemical Waste Management, a majority-owned subsidiary of Waste Management Inc., Oak Brook, Ill., have established an alliance for managing the process of cleaning railcars at General American's four service centers. Chemical Waste Management employees will assist General American employees in the cleaning of railcars and the handling and disposing of wastes.
 "Chemical Waste Management's knowledge in identifying, handling, transporting, and disposing of hazardous wastes enhances our cleaning process," said Terrence G. Heidkamp, vice president of operations at General American. "Combining the expertise of Chemical Waste Management with new closed-loop cleaning systems will enable General American to clean a wide range of commodities, establish 'one stop' service for railcars, and offer a unique service to our customers."
 General American's service centers are located in Hearne, Texas; Colton, Calif.; East Chicago, Ind.; and Waycross, Ga. They plan to implement these new cleaning processes at each of their service centers over the next two years.
 Chemical Waste Management is the nation's largest comprehensive hazardous waste management and environmental services company. It provides waste reduction services; recycling, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes; and the remediation of environmentally-impaired sites.
 General American Transportation Corporation leases the largest fleet of railroad tank cars in the United States, as well as other specialized freight cars which transport chemicals, food, petroleum, and fertilizers for major industries and users of bulk commodities. General American Transportation Corporation also operates railcar service centers and provides fleet management for its own fleet as well as for others.
