 GENCORP ANNOUNCES REDEMPTION OF SUBORDINATED NOTES
 AND DEBENTURES
 FAIRLAWN, Ohio, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Effective July 28, 1992, GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY) has issued redemption notices for all The General Tire & Rubber Company (now GenCorp Inc.) 11-7/8 percent subordinated notes due Sept. 15, 1993 and all The General Tire & Rubber Company 12-3/8 percent subordinated debentures due May 1, 2003. Both issues are to be redeemed in full on Aug. 27, 1992. The company estimates a third quarter pre-tax charge of approximately $2 million will result from this redemption.
 The 11-7/8 percent notes are to be redeemed at a redemption price of 100 percent of their principal amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. Accrued interest for the period March 15, 1992 to Aug. 27, 1992 will total $53.4375 per $1,000 face amount of notes. Interest will cease to accrue on the notes on and after the redemption date. Interest payable on Aug. 27, 1992 will be paid with the redemption price and will be mailed to holders only upon surrender of their notes to the office of the paying agent, at the following address:

 The 12-3/8 percent debentures are to be redeemed at a redemption price of 101.1875 percent of their principal amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. Accrued interest for the period May 1, 1992 to Aug. 27, 1992 will total $39.875 per $1,000 face amount of debentures. Interest will cease to accrue on the debentures on and after the redemption date. Interest payable on Aug. 27, 1992 will be paid with the redemption price and will be mailed to holders only upon surrender of their debentures to the office of the paying agent, at the following address:
