GE WINS ORDER FOR PENNSYLVANIA STEEL MILL

SALEM, Va., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- GE Drive Systems, headquartered here today announced that it has received a $16 million order from United Engineering to participate in the construction of a rolling mill retrofit for Lukens Steel in Conshocken, Pa.
The order calls for GE to supply all of the process control and automation, drive equipment, and technical advisory services for construction of a Steckel mill at Luken's existing steel producing facility in Conshohocken. According to GE Drive Systems Metal Rolling Sales Manager Rod Fickler, "This new Steckel mill will double the capacity of the Conshohocken facility while enabling Lukens to effectively compete in previously unserved markets. When completed, we believe it will be the most automated Steckel mill in the world. They will be able to produce world-class steel products meeting quality standards well above those typical of this kind of mill."
For Drive Systems, GE Vice president Tom Brock emphasized, "This order represents an important breakthrough for the value of our new, structured family of drive products. Our focused efforts to design standardized products that can be engineered and manufactured quicker and more efficiently than their predecessors, while offering increased functionality and reliability to our customers, is making us the best choice for the mini-mill market." The new Lukens steckel mill will feature Drive Systems' new Directo-Matic(TM) 2000 drives.
"We're extremely pleased to have the opportunity to serve this customer with a total systems package that we believe is unmatched for quality, reliability, and customer value in our industry," Brock added.
