GE PLASTICS ESTABLISHES ORGANIZATION IN CHINA, ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS

 PITTSFIELD, Mass., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Herbert Rammrath, president of GE Plastics Pacific, has announced the formation of GE Plastics China and named John M.S. Brown president of the new organization.
 Brown will manage all engineering resin activities in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition, he will serve as commercial director, coordinating commercial activities throughout the Pacific. GE Plastics China will be headquartered in Hong Kong.
 Rammrath said that during the past year, Brown oversaw the development of a strategic investment plan for the region. He added that the company sees "immense opportunities and strong demand for our materials" in China.
 Brown joined GE Plastics in October 1977. He served in several marketing positions in Europe and the United States before moving to Tokyo in 1989. He was director of marketing for GE Plastics Japan before becoming president in 1990. During his most recent assignment, Brown headed the development, construction, and start-up of GE's new LEXAN(R) resin manufacturing facility in Chiba, Japan.
 Rammrath also announced the appointment of Michael Lowe as commercial director of Southeast Asia, which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Rammrath described the region as "among the fastest growing in the world during the next decade."
 "Michael will concentrate his talents on this important area to maintain the double-digit growth of the past 10 years, while also developing emerging markets such as the Philippines," said Rammrath.
 In a related announcement, Ferdinando Becalli has been appointed president of GE Plastics Japan, replacing Brown. Becalli will manage GE Plastics Japan, a joint venture of General Electric (NYSE: GE), Mitsui Petrochemical, and Nagase. The company produces engineering plastics in Moka and Chiba, Japan.
 Becalli joined GE in 1975 in the United States and has been with GE Plastics since 1977. He has held various marketing positions in the United States and Europe and has been managing director of GE Structured Products Europe since 1990.
 GE Plastics, headquartered in Pittsfield, is the world leader in the manufacture and sales of engineering thermoplastics.
