GE PLANS TO INVEST $125 MILLION TO EXPAND INDIANA APPLIANCE PLANT

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) today announced a $125 million investment to expand its refrigerator plant here. The three-year investment program could result in as many as 150 new GE jobs.
GE's Bloomington plant produces side-by-side refrigerators under the GE, Hotpoint, RCA and private label brand names.
Tim Kearns, plant manager in Bloomington, said the investment program calls for an upgrade of critical manufacturing processes and additional manufacturing space.
The expansion will make GE's Bloomington plant the largest facility for production of side-by-side refrigerators in the world. GE is the industry's leading producer of the side-by-side units.
Kearns said the investment "affirms GE's confidence in the Bloomington plant's employees and their proven willingness to perform as one team dedicated to serving and responding to customer needs. The investment," he added, "will strengthen GE's product leadership position."
Other recent GE investments in the Bloomington plant include $1.6 million for a training center in 1989, and $7 million for a powdered paint facility in 1991.
