GE CAPITAL COMPUTER LEASING, SUNGARD RECOVERY SERVICES JOIN IN MARKETING ALLIANCE FOR COMPUTERS

 EMERYVILLE, Calif., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- GE Capital Computer Leasing, a leader in the computer-leasing field, and SunGard Recovery Services, the pioneer in disaster recovery services, joined today in a marketing alliance to provide customers with increased capabilities and flexibility in computer system acquisition and business-recovery services.
 The alliance joins two strong players in the computer services field to:
 -- Provide customers with the value-added service of bundling SunGard comprehensive business recovery services with GE Capital Computer Leasing equipment/services financing;
 -- Deliver simplicity and flexibility to planning and implementing both equipment acquisition and business recovery processes.
 "GE Capital Computer Leasing provides full-service solutions to customers, and our alliance with SunGard helps ensure comprehensive delivery," said Michael S. Ford, president and chief executive officer of GE Capital Computer Leasing. "SunGard and GE Capital Computer Leasing represent two industry leaders who will now be able to offer increased value to our customers."
 Michael F. Mulholland, president and chief operating officer of SunGard Recovery Services, said: "The leasing component adds a new capability to SunGard's comprehensive business recovery model. Our relationship with Computer Leasing helps simplify our subscribers' equipment leasing process, so they can focus on their recovery requirements. It is not only a great fit for our two companies, but also a strategic opportunity for our customers."
 The alliance enables both GE Capital Computer Leasing and SunGard account executives to refer their customers to the other company and to coordinate delivery of services with their alliance counterparts. For example, an equipment customer will be able to bundle disaster recovery services into a Computer Leasing financing agreement. Further, a SunGard customer would be able to meet equipment requirements through financing by Computer Leasing.
 Computer leasing, a $20-billion industry in the United States, is the nation's single largest segment of the equipment-leasing industry. More than half of all computers are acquired through leasing rather than purchasing, according to the Computer Dealers and Lessors Association. In addition to financial and capital advantages, leasing enables users to avoid technological obsolescense of their equipment.
 Comprehensive business recovery is a $5-billion dollar industry internationally. Businesses' increasing dependence on computers has boosted this industry, because system downtime can be extremely costly and disruptive.
 GE Capital Computer Leasing is a full-service computer lessor, based in Emeryville, and has 22 sales offices throughout the nation. According to industry surveys, it is rated by customers as one of the top providers of computer leasing in terms of quality of services of competitiveness.
 GE Capital, headquartered in Stamford, Conn., is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), is a diversified financial services company with assets exceeding $85 billion. GE Capital's activities include equipment management, mid-market financing, specialized financing and consumer services. GE is a diversified manufacturing, technology and services company with operations worldwide.
