GE AMERICOM: THE VACATION NETWORK DEBUTS VIA SATCOM C-1 PRINCETON, N.J., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- On Jan. 27, The Vacation
Network began making life easier for vacationers -- by distributing travel advice via satellite.
The company has signed a long-term agreement with GE American Communications, Inc. (GE Americom) for satellite transmission service on GE's Satcom C-1, transponder 15. This means that more than 23 million households will have access to The Vacation Network via cable system affiliates and back yard dish enthusiasts. The Vacation Network, cable's newest travel programming service, presents 30- to 60-minute programs on specific states, cities, countries and areas. Each program shows the viewer what to see and do in a specific vacation area, providing a detailed look to help viewers plan their vacations. Because television guide listings name the vacation destinations and time slots, viewers have the added convenience of selecting the vacation program they prefer. The Vacation Network joins the Prime Sports family of regional services, Prime Ticket, Sunshine Network, SportsChannel LA and SportsChannel Pacific, Netlink Services, and other regional sports services in GE Americom's Satcom C-1 cable neighborhood. GE Americom, located in Princeton, uses the Satcom fleet -- five C- band and two Ku-band satellites -- to service cable television, broadcast radio and television as well as business information and government markets. GE Americom is a subsidiary of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE). /delval/ -0- 3/13/92 /CONTACT: Paul Manuele, 609-987-4200, or Susan Bennett, 609-987-4202, both of GE Americom/ (GE) CO: GE American Communications ST: New Jersey IN: TLS SU: KA-MP -- PH010 -- 7715 03/13/92 10:06 EST
