GDS SOLUTIONS LAUNCHES NEW PC SOFTWARE
ST. LOUIS, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GDS Solutions, a division of EDS,

today announced a global agreement with Computer Aided Development Corp. (Cadcorp) to release GDS Solutions' newest product offering, MicroGDS.
MicroGDS is the first professional-level PC CAD product to be developed specifically for the Microsoft Windows market. Users have direct graphical user interface (GUI) "hotlinks" to other Windows-based applications such as spreadsheets and word processing. MicroGDS offers innovative GUI customization for application developers by incorporating dynamic data exchange (DDE) capabilities within the product.
MicroGDS provides functionality traditionally associated with mid- range CAD systems, such as Graphic Data System (GDS), including complete multiple file/user/window functionality and object and data attribute intelligence. MicroGDS further enhances GDS Solutions' workstation- based product, GDS, by providing greater access to spatial, graphic and administrative data bases. MicroGDS brings workstation power to the PC. It allows users to gather, manage and distribute graphic information within the Microsoft Windows 3.0 and 3.1 environments. Its file translators provide an ideal centralized platform from which to integrate an organization's CAD systems. MicroGDS offers translators to and from most CAD systems including GDS, AutoCAD and Microstation.
"MicroGDS complements GDS by providing a PC-based point solution for individual users, or it can be an integrated part of a networkwide solution," said Eric Loken, general manager for GDS Solutions. "Data base information, drawings and specifications can be easily passed between MicroGDS and GDS. Engineers, adjustors and surveyors can now bring this technology into the field to project sites, and directly communicate information back to organizational data bases. Both products support all stages of a project, from planning through design, construction and maintenance."
Applications for MicroGDS include space planning, real estate management, corporate information systems, geographic information systems, transportation management and computer aided design and engineering.
MicroGDS is available for shipment immediately and is priced starting at $3,500. MicroGDS runs on all 386- and 486-based PC computers under Windows 3.0 and 3.1.
GDS Solutions' workstation-based product, GDS, is used by more than 1,200 companies worldwide with more than 6,500 users in a variety of industry sectors. These include transportation, state and local government, telecommunications, utilities and retail.
GDS Solutions is headquartered in St. Louis and has field offices in 14 cities in the United States and Canada. International offices are headquartered in Woking, United Kingdom, with distributors throughout Europe, Japan and Australia.
