GCI EXTENDS 800 COLLECT

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- GCI said today it has extended the easiest, least expensive collect calling program to Alaska. 1-800-COLLECT enables anyone -- travelers, students, children, fishermen, and men and women in the armed services -- to call collect from any phone in America, including Alaska.
The service allows consumers who currently make collect calls to choose the lowest rate when placing these calls. The savings on Alaska- originated long-distance calls will be up to 44 percent over current Alascom operator-assisted collect calling rates.
"Through GCI's strategic alliance with MCI, 1-800-COLLECT now is available throughout the United States, including Alaska. Alaskans can use it in their home state or when traveling," said Wilson Hughes, GCI executive vice president and general manager.
To use the new service, callers simply dial 1-800-COLLECT (1-800-265-5328) to reach an operator who will connect the call. (Callers from Anchorage do not need to dial 1.) Neither the caller nor the recipient needs to be an MCI or GCI customer. 1-800-COLLECT service applies to in-state, out-of-state and international calling.
Multi-lingual operators can assist callers in the following foreign languages when placing and receiving 1-800-COLLECT calls. These are: Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and German. Callers can make 1-800-COLLECT calls to 110 foreign countries and places.
GCI, an Alaska-based long-distance company, provides service to more than 80,000 customers.
