GATORADE ANNOUNCES NATION'S BEST PREP BOYS TRACK ATHLETE

WACO, Texas, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gatorade Circle of Champions National Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year was announced today by The Gatorade Company and Scholastic Coach magazine.
The award, based on overall athletic and academic performance throughout high school, distinguishes the winner as the best prep boys track and field athlete in the nation. There are 51 state winners, including Washington, D.C. These winners are then narrowed to eight regional winners, and finally, one national winner. These winners are made by the Gatorade National Advisory Board comprised of 10 national and regional sports writers.
Named today as the 1993 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year was Charles Mitchell, a senior sprinter at Waco High School in Waco, Texas. Mitchell was previously chosen as the Texas and Southwest Region Athlete of the Year.
The highly regarded Mitchell sprinted his way to fame in the 200, where he recorded the nation's fastest time of 20.52 seconds. He was also the second fastest nationally in the 100 and ran on two relays for the high school. He will be attending Mississippi State this fall on a football and track scholarship. Mitchell was a standout wide receiver on the Waco High School team.
