GATEWAY 2000 SHIPS MILLIONTH COMPUTER

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway 2000 recently shipped its millionth computer, reaching yet another milestone in the direct market PC manufacturer's seven-year history of extraordinary growth.
"We shipped our 500,000th system in April 1992, six years after we started selling product" said Gateway 2000 President and CEO Ted Waitt. "Only one year later, we're shipping our millionth PC, and we've become a Fortune 500 company. But we aren't going to act like a big company. We're going to continue delivering the value and keeping our commitment to customer service that got us here."
Gateway's production workers assemble more than 2,500 units per day in the company's plant located in North Sioux City, S.D. Gateway shipped approximately 437,000 systems in 1992 alone, reaching record revenue levels of over $1 billion.
"As a pure direct marketer, we know that when we sell a system, it ships directly to the customer," continued Waitt. "This is not pipeline fill -- it represents an installed base of units. In 1993 we expect to continue our pace of growth by reaching new customers, expanding our product offerings, and extending our geographic reach."
Gateway's millionth PC is the company's award-winning 4DX2-66V, a 66MHz 486-based local bus system. As the millionth customer, Jerry Herak of Spokane, Wash., will receive a free HandBook portable PC.
 Full Service and Support
Gateway supports its customers with a number of services, including: lifetime free access to toll-free technical support; a one-year limited parts-and-labor warranty; lifetime free access to BBS support services; an automated faxback service for distribution of product and technical documentation; and a 30-day, money-back guarantee.
