 GATEWAY 2000 REVENUES UP
 NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway 2000, a

leading direct marketer and manufacturer of IBM-compatible personal computers, ended 1991 with $626.8 million in revenue, up 128 percent from last year's $275.5 million. Total units shipped for the year exceeded 250,000.
In addition, pre-tax earnings for the privately held company were $59.7 million for 1991, up 137 percent from $25.2 million for 1991.
"We are very pleased with our 1991 results," said Gateway 2000 President and CEO Ted Waitt. "We exceeded the goals we set at the beginning of the year by a substantial margin, and we attribute our success to our supportive customers and to our continual efforts to offer them the best price/performance values."
The company shipped more than 92,000 units for $206.5 million in fourth quarter 1991, a 129 percent increase from the $90 million registered for the same period a year ago, and a 19 percent increase from the $174.1 million from the third quarter 1991.
Each year, Gateway 2000 sales have grown dramatically, from $1.5 million in 1987 to $11.8 million in 1988, to $70.6 million in 1989, to $275.5 million in 1990 and finally, to $626.8 million in 1991.
"Even though we have been successful, we won't stop now," said Waitt. "We are committed to constantly improving the support and value we provide to our customers. By doing this, we believe we can reach our 1992 goal of more than $1 billion in sales."
Named the fastest-growing private firm in America by Inc. magazine, Gateway 2000 currently sells more IBM-compatible personal computers through the direct market channel in this country than by any other PC manufacturer.
