GATEWAY 2000 INTRODUCES NEW PRICE/PERFORMANCE CHAMPIONS: 25MHz 486SX AND 25MHz 386SX

GATEWAY 2000 INTRODUCES NEW PRICE/PERFORMANCE CHAMPIONS:
 25MHz 486SX AND 25MHz 386SX
NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway 2000 today introduced two new competitively priced, high-performance SX computers, reflecting the company's commitment to continually offer its customers the best price/performance values.
"We are committed to offering our customers systems that they want with the best price/performance values," said Gateway 2000 President and CEO Ted Waitt. "Our new SX systems give our customers the choice of two more exceptionally priced, high-performance machines to accommodate their specific needs.
 High-End 486 Performance for Less than $2,400
The 25MHz 486SX offers high-end, 486-type performance, yet is comparable in price to a similarly configured 33MHz 386DX system. For only $2,395, the new 25MHz 486 system comes standard with 4MB of RAM expandable to 64MB, a 200MB hard drive, the ATI Graphics Ultra video card and a 14-inch Crystal Scan 1024NI VGA color monitor.
"The 486SX chip can outperform 386DSX-based systems up to 20 percent when running 16-bit DOS applications," said Gateway 2000 Marketing Manager Mike Schmith. "It fills the void between 386 and 486 systems, giving users another intermediate-level computing choice."
 25MHz 386SX Priced at $1,595
A mini desktop model, the $1,595 25MHz 386SX comes standard with 4MB of RAM expandable to 16MB, an 80MB hard drive, 16-bit VGA graphics with 512K and a 14-inch Crystal Scan 1024 VGA color monitor.
Both SX systems include 1.2MB and 1.44MB floppy disk drives, a 124-key AnyKey programmable keyboard, DOS 5, Windows 3.1, a choice of free application software and a Microsoft mouse.
They are available now directly from Gateway.
