 GATEWAY 2000 DROPS NOTEBOOK PRICES UP TO 20 PERCENT;
 486SX/20 NOTEBOOK NOW UNDER $2,000
 NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway 2000 announced today it has dropped the prices on its line of Nomad notebook computers up to 20 percent. With the new pricing, users can now have a 486 notebook computer for less than $2,000.
 The price of the company's Nomad 420SXL (486SXL/20) with 4MB of RAM and an 80 MB hard drive was dropped 20 percent from $2,495 to $1,995. The similarly configured Nomad 325SXL (386SXL/25) is now $1,795, down 10 percent from $1,995. And the Nomad 425DXL (486DXL/25) was also dropped 10 percent, from $2,995 to $2,695. It comes with 4MB of RAM and a 120MB hard drive.
 All Nomads come with MS DOS 5.0, Windows 3.1, Gateway's fieldmouse, and Works for Windows, which is a fully functional word processor, spreadsheet and database program ideal for frequent travelers.
 In addition, the Nomads weigh only 5.6 pounds -- among the lightest in the industry -- and have 6-hour battery life -- among the longest in the industry.
 "As we've stated before, we feel the 486SX is the entry-level processor, and now that includes notebooks as well," said Gateway 2000 President Ted Waitt. "With our new pricing, users can get a 486 for the price of most other 386 notebooks and not compromise power, performance, battery life and screen readability. At $1,995, our Nomad 420SXL represents best notebook value in the industry."
 The new prices are effective immediately.
