GASTALDI TOURS TO GIVE SPRINT PREPAID CARDS TO ITALIAN TRAVELERS

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint today announced that Gastaldi Tours, Italy's largest organizer of travel group tours to the United States, will give its customers a Sprint prepaid calling card as a unique customer service bonus. Gastaldi is already a distributor of Sprint's global calling credit card, the Sprint FONCARD.
Gastaldi gives a card carrying 20 units worth of calling to its New York City-bound customers. Travelers can use the prepaid calling card from any touch-tone telephone in the United States to make domestic or international calls. Usage instructions and the toll- free U.S. access number are printed on the card in Italian, as are the pre-recorded messages the caller hears while dialing.
Gastaldi's use of the prepaid card as a client bonus is one of several ways that travel companies can use the multi-purpose card in their marketing programs. The highly attractive, designer-graphic card can be designed to bear a travel agency or airline logo, for example, or can carry a country- or event-specific graphic to be sold as a valued collectible by hotels, duty free shops and other travel companies to the growing global collectors' market.
In addition to providing the Sprint prepaid card, Gastaldi already offers Italian travelers an application for a Sprint FONCARD, which lets travelers call virtually anywhere in the world from a growing number of countries and receive English language assistance. Like the prepaid card, the FONCARD simplifies calling for travelers by eliminating the need for the caller to have exact change in a foreign currency or be familiar with the local dialing plan and language. Instead, charges for the FONCARD calls appear on the caller's monthly Visa, American Express or MasterCard bill in the caller's local currency. Callers also receive a detailed listing of calls each month.
The Sprint FONCARD also lets callers use Sprint Express, a calling service to the United States that can be reached -- toll-free -- from nearly 60 countries. From approximately 33 countries, including many European countries, calls can be made not just to the United States but to virtually any other country in the world. From Italy, callers may enjoy Sprint's cost-effective international calling rates to the United States.
"Sprint's calling cards simplify calling for Italian visitors to the U.S.A. by eliminating language and currency barriers," said Paolo Brunetti, general manager of Central/Southern Europe for Sprint International, Sprint's global telecommunications subsidiary.
"Gastaldi Tours has been excited about this program from the outset, and judging from the response we have so far received, our clients are equally pleased with the card's performance during their travels," said Paolo Sirigu, U.S. product manager for Gastaldi Tours.
"For Italian travelers, Sprint has shown itself to be a reliable and easy-to-use telecommunications company. This experience has led us to continue our cooperation with Sprint through the 1993 summer season," Sirigu said.
Sprint (NYSE: FON) is a $9.2 billion international telecommunications company, providing voice, video and data networking solutions to the world's commercial, government and financial centers.
