GAS PRICE REMAINS LOWEST SINCE APRIL 28, AAA SAYS

 ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.103 per gallon, the American Automobile Association said today.
 AAA's monthly Fuel Gauge Report shows the average price is the same as reported on Dec. 29. The December figure was the lowest recorded since April 28, when the price was $1.089 per gallon.
 The average price of self-serve unleaded is highest in the West, at $1.191 per gallon, and lowest in the Midwest at $1.032 per gallon. Other regional prices are: New England, $1.163; Mid-Atlantic, $1.137; Great Lakes, $1.096; Southwest, $1.094; and Southeast, $1.056. This is the first time AAA has reported average gasoline prices for each region of the nation.
 Since the end of 1992, the national average price of self-serve mid- grade unleaded edged down 0.1 cent, to $1.202 per gallon. Self-serve premium unleaded is down 0.5 cent to $1.286 per gallon.
 Among full-service grades, AAA said regular unleaded averages $1.368 per gallon nationwide; mid-grade unleaded, $1.458; and premium unleaded, $1.516.
 The Fuel Gauge Report -- based on a nationwide survey of gasoline stations -- is conducted for AAA by Computer Petroleum Corp. of St. Paul, Minn.
 In addition to surveying for the AAA Fuel Gauge Report, Computer Petroleum Corp. publishes the National Petroleum Price Index, which monitors more than 90,000 daily wholesale and retail gasoline prices throughout the United States and Canada.
 AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 139 motor clubs with more than 1,000 offices providing its 34 million members in the U.S. and Canada with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
