GAS COMPANY REPORTS ON OPERATIONS DURING SOUTHLAND FIRES

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gas Company reports the following information related to the Southland fires:
-- Bills waived for fire victims. The Gas Company will waive gas bills for customers whose residences were destroyed during this week's fires. For more information, customers can call 800-427-2200.
-- Restores underway; most residences to have service by Sunday evening. Crews will be working throughout the weekend to inspect gas lines leading to residences and customer appliances to ensure their safe operation. These safety checks need to be made before service can be restored. Of the more than 1,300 customers without gas service this week, 1,100 have been in the Laguna Beach area (100 meters shut off in the Crystal Cove area; 700 meters shut off from El Moro Bay to Emerald Bay; 50 meters shut off in the Canyon Acres area, and 250 meters in the Skyline area, East of Laguna High School). In Altadena, many customers shut off their own meters, so it's unknown how many residences need service restored. At the peak of the fire, The Gas Company estimates that some 200 residences in Altadena were without service. To restore gas service, customers can call 800-427-2200.
-- Customer assistance offered in Altadena and Laguna Beach. The Gas Company will have representatives available to answer service- related questions for customers whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the fires. In Altadena, Gas Company representatives will be at the Foothill Service Restoration Center beginning Saturday, Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 560 E. Mariposa. The center will remain open for one week. For information, call 800-300-0073. Company representatives will also be available at the Laguna Beach Water District, 306 Third Street (Board Room), from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. For information, call 714-494-1041.
-- Gas Company asks customers to be patient. Customers need to be patient in waiting for service to be restored and should not attempt to turn service on without Gas Company assistance. Crews need to thoroughly inspect all gas lines and appliances before service can be re-established.
