 DENVER, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Gart Bros. Sporting Goods Company announced today the signing of a lease for its second suburban superstore, to open in Arvada, in April, 1994. The one-level, 68,000 square-foot store will be called Gart Sports Superstore. The new store (previously Food Bonanza) at 7410 W. 52nd. Ave. and was brokered by John Eliot and Greg Ham of Trammell Crow Company for the Arvada Marketplace Associates. The power strip center is also anchored by Pace, Home Base, and Office Depot. Gart Bros.' flagship store is the 100,000 square-foot Sportscastle located at 1000 Broadway, near downtown Denver.
 "Our goal is to maintain our dominant position in the Rocky Mountain region while offering customers greater convenience, low everyday prices, and enormous selection," said John Chase, president and CEO. The Arvada Superstore will be the second of five planned Gart Sports Superstores to circle the greater metropolitan area. The five superstores are planned to open within the next two years. "These Superstores, together with Gart's existing mall stores -- which will be remodeled to put more emphasis on the shoe and apparel categories -- will reinforce our commitment to service the sporting goods needs of the greater metropolitan Denver area," Chase said.
 The merchandise in this Superstore will be consistent with the Aurora Superstore scheduled to open in November, 1993. These stores will offer a comprehensive merchandise assortment with over 100,000 items, representing over 2,000 manufacturers. The store will include extensive fishing, hunting, camping, golf, tennis, ski, athletic shoes and apparel, and athletic equipment departments. In addition, these stores will offer complete repair and servicing of sporting goods equipment with ski and snowboard tuning, tennis racket and golf club repair, bike setup, tuning and repair, Rollerblade repair, and baseball glove relacing. The Repair Shop and Ski Rental Shop have been designed with a separate entrance to allow customers greater convenience and extended hours. Encouraging customers to "try before they buy," there will be three demonstration areas for golf putting, golf driving, and Rollerblading.

 Background: Gart Bros. Sporting Goods Company was the first in the region to introduce a superstore concept with the Denver Sportscastle located at 1000 Broadway, Denver, Colo.
 Five additional superstores are anticipated to open by the end of 1995, including the new Aurora Superstore in November, 1993.

 Gart Bros. is continuing to expand through their acquisition of ten former Herman's stores. One store has opened in Layton, Utah with the other nine expected to open by Sept. 15, 1993.
 Installation began in June, 1993 on a new computer network, new warehouse systems, and new point-of-sale cash registers. Installation will be complete in 1994 at an investment of over $2.5 million.
 In 1993, Gart Bros. is also remodeling its Southwest Plaza, Denver, Rustic Hills, Colorado Springs, and Casper, Wyoming stores.
