       GANNETT ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS IN NEWSPAPER DIVISION
    ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Three executive appointments were announced today in the newspaper division of Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI).
    -- Sandra R. Baker has been named president and publisher of the Gainseville (Ga.) Times.
    -- William W. Hunsberger succeeds Baker as president and publisher of the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American.
    -- Guy L. Gilmore succeeds Hunsberger as circulation director of Florida Today in Brevard County, Fla.
    The announcements were made by Michael J. Coleman, president of the Gannett South Regional Group.
    Baker, 54, succeeds William V. Monopoli, who last week was named president and publisher of the Port Huron (Mich.) Times Herald.  Baker joined Gannett in 1972 as a reporter at the Pensacola (Fla.) News- Journal, where she later served as features editor.
    Baker also has served as editor and publisher of weekly publications in Brevard County, Fla., and as associate publisher of the Shreveport (La.) Times.  She became publisher in Hattiesburg in 1987.
    Hunsberger, 42, previously had served as circulation director of the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger and Daily News from 1985 to 1990, when he moved to Florida Today.  He also has held circulation management positions at the Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser, Clearwater (Fla.) Newspapers, Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise and Journal, Tampa Tribune and Richmond (Va.) newspapers.
    Gilmore, 36, began his career with Gannett in 1976 at the San Bernardino (Calif.) Sun.  He also held circulation management positions with USA Today before being named circulation director of the Reno (Nev.) Gazette Journal in 1988.  Gilmore most recently served as circulation director of the Arkansas Gazette.
    Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 86 daily newspapers, including USA Today and USA Weekend, a newspaper magazine.  In addition to its television and radio stations, Gannett operates the largest outdoor advertising company in North America.
