GAME FOR A LAUGH; THERE'S A REAL FUN SIDE TO THIS MOTION-SENSOR SPORT COLLECTION.

KINECT SPORTS SEASON 2 Xbox 360 pounds 9.99 (requires Kinect sensor) ****

After being bought up by Microsoft, Rare have become one of the chief developers for the Kinect motion sensor. And while hardcore fans cry out for the return of the likes of Perfect Dark, Kinect Sports Season 2 sees Rare silencing the naysayers with a superb party title.

Six sports feature (American football, golf, darts, skiiing, baseball and tennis), each with intuitive and responsive controller-free play methods. While some, such as American football are fun but lack depth, golf and tennis, if expanded upon, have enough features and laughs to justify their own standalone games.

Golf for instance requires you to take up the familiar side-on stance before performing your swing, with the Kinect sensor recognising a hand to the brow as a cue to scan the hole ahead. Even calling out a club name has the Kinect Sensor putting it into your avatar's hand.

While the standard game is far from reaching simulation levels of sporting accuracy, Kinect Sports Season 2 revels in its ridiculousness too through party modes, turning darts into a magician's Wheel Of Death and skiing into a breakneck obstacle course. The fact that you find yourself grabbing imaginary ski poles or glancing at an invisible oche, is testament to the accuracy of the motion-controlled action.

It's the little touches that make the big differences, such as the ability to pull faces behind an opponent in darts or trigger offputting cow bells in a ski slalom. Rare have nailed the art of creating a package more fun than self-consciously silly. In fact, it's a Rare treat.
