GALOOB TO INTRODUCE GAME GENIE FOR SUPER NES IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS

GALOOB TO INTRODUCE GAME GENIE FOR SUPER NES IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- In a surprise move, Lewis Galoob Toys, Inc. (NYSE: GAL, GALPR) announced today that it will begin shipping the Game Genie(TM) video game enhancer for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System(R) to retailers in time for the Christmas season. This is more than six months ahead of previous expectations. Galoob is the exclusive marketer and distributor of Game Genie products in the United States and Western Europe.
Similar to Galoob's Game Genie of the NES(R), whose United States and Western Europe sales have now surpassed 1.6 million units, and Game Genie for the Sega(TM) Genesis(TM)(A) system which is now reaching full U.S. retail distribution, the eagerly anticipated SuperNES(TM) Game Genie grants players their video game wishes. Genie lets players temporarily change and customize their favorite games. Players will have more power, more energy, live forever, run faster, punch harder or go to any level of the game.
Featuring more powerful technology, Game Genie for Super NES enables players to add up to five special effects at a time, two more than possible in the Genie for NES. A highlight of Super NES Game Genie is its switching capability that allows players to turn Game Genie's special effects on and off at will.
Every Super NES Game Genie includes codes for the first 51 games in the initial codebook. Fifty more games will be supplemented free by mail using the coupon that comes in each package. And as with Genie for NES and Genesis, Super NES Game Genie owners will be able to get the latest codes for the hottest new games as they come out by subscribing to the quarterly Game Genie Code Updates. A subscription card is packed in every Game Genie box. More than 100,000 players have subscribed to the NES Update. The first Sega Genesis Game Genie Update will be published shortly.
Galoob Executive Vice President Gary J. Niles said, "The Game Genie for Super NES is the latest application of the patented technological breakthrough of Codemasters Software Company Ltd., which led to the development of the first Game Genie." Codemasters, founded in 1985 by two brothers in their teens, David and Richard Darling, is today one of the world's leading developers, publishers and inventors of peripherals and software for video games.
