GABY HOFFMAN SET TO STAR IN NEW SPRING SERIES FOR NBC

Produced By Sandollar Productions And Mohawk Productions Inc.,
 In Association with Touchstone Television
BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Gaby Hoffman ("Sleepless in Seattle," "This Is My Life") has signed an exclusive agreement with Walt Disney Television to star in a series for NBC which is scheduled to debut this coming spring. The series is to be created by executive producer-writer Bruce Helford ("Roseanne") and produced by Sandollar Productions and Mohawk Productions Inc. in association with Touchstone Television.
"We are delighted to have Gaby joining the Disney family," commented Dean Valentine, executive vice president Network Television. "Although she is all of 11 years old, she has already established a track record of quality performances. We're particularly excited to have Bruce Helford, who produced some of the finest `Roseanne' and `Family Ties' episodes," said Valentine.
Stu Sheslow, president of Sandollar Television, stated, "We are excited that Dean Valentine and his staff, along with ICM and NBC, got behind this project. This marks the first series since Sandollar came over from Twentieth Television, and Gail Berman, executive vice president of Sandollar, who shepherded this project, will remain point person in the Gaby development."
The series, set in St. Louis, will focus on an 11-year-old girl who must deal with the complexity of growing up in the world today.
In order to give the show the integrity Helford wanted to convey, he traveled to Missouri to interview 11-year-old kids. "It's important that the series portrays an honest and realistic view of life through the eyes of an 11-year-old," said Helford. "Eleven years old now is radically different, with adolescence beginning sooner and kids a lot more informed than ever before. And, since the series is set in St. Louis, I needed to talk to the kids who live there. I needed to understand their relationships with their families and friends, what their priorities are and aren't, and what they find interesting. Where do they hang out? What do they like to do, etc.?"
Hoffman is best known for her portrayal as the spiritually enlightened and overly precocious next-door-neighbor of Jonah, Tom Hanks' son in "Sleepless in Seattle." Among her other theatrical credits are "A Man Without A Face" starring Mel Gibson, "This Is My Life" starring Julie Kavner, "Uncle Buck" starring John Candy, and "Field of Dreams" starring Kevin Costner.
The series is produced by Sandollar Productions and Mohawk Productions Inc. in association with Touchstone Television. Sheslow and Berman are series executive producers along with Helford serving as executive producer and writer.
Touchstone Television is part of Walt Disney Pictures and Television.
