GABF held in Denver, medals awarded in 70 style categories.
At this year's Great American Beer Festival, 580 breweries poured 2700 beers in 79 beer categories. One of the big winners was the Left Hand Brewing Co. of Longmont, CO, which took home three golds. In the photo above, the Left Hand crew receives recognition on the stage at the festival. Top row, left to right: Brendan Guernsey, Chris Lennert, BA president Charlie Papazian, Joe Schiraldi, Ro Guenzel, Mike Walters, and Logan Wiley, Lower row, left to right: Josh Breckel, Matt Scholbrock, Jason Ingram and Henry Myers. The company won the gold medals for Sawtooth Ale in the ordinary/special bitter category, Milk Stout in the sweet stout category and Fade to Black Volume 1 in the Foreign Export Stout category, and tied for the most Gold Medals taken home this year (Firestone Walker also won three). VP of Operations Chris Lennert noted that a flood came within inches of destroying the brewery last month, and said "this wasn't just another GABF for us--we needed to cut loose collectively, celebrate 20 years of making great beer, thank all of our customers for their support during the flood and tell the world we're stronger than ever."
