GAA star hits the bar.. with his face! EXCLUSIVE FREAK ACCIDENT LEAVES NEIL IN HOSPITAL DASH FOR PLASTIC SURGERY.
A TOP GAA star had to have plastic surgery on his face after a bizarre bar mishap.
Well-known Donegal county footballer Neil Magee was socialising with friends in Dillon's Quality Court Hotel in Letterkenny when the accident happened.
McGee, 24, who plays for Gweedore along with brother and fellow Donegal star Eamon, is believed to have slipped and fallen, and banged his face on a bar stool.
The unlucky player was rushed to nearby Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment.
After being assessed by doctors he was then transferred to Dublin for specialist care.
Full-back McGee has been a key player with Donegal for the past two years.
A source close to the star said he is recovering well after his close call.
"He is still in a lot of pain and it will take him a while to recover.
"It was just one of those freak things and he has been told it could have been a lot worse.
"He's in good enough spirits but he has had to have surgery to his face to repair it. He was in a right state.
"He won't be playing football for a while but there's no question he'll be lining out for Donegal again in the future," the source added.
A spokesman for Dillon's Pub in the Letterkenny Court Hotel on Main Street said: "A man slipped and hurt himself and was taken to hospital. There was no altercation or anything like that.
"It was just a freak accident and we believe he is making a recovery now."
