G-Mac: I hope Stevie steals my Ryder spot.

GRAEME MCDOWELL insists he'll be delighted if Scots ace Stephen Gallacher nicks his Ryder Cup spot.

G-Mac is in ninth place in the standings but won't play this week.

The Northern Irishman is skipping the event to be with his wife and newlyborn first child.

Gallacher is 11th on the points table but would leapfrog McDowell with a top-two finish in the Italian Open. After a final-round 72 to finish three under in The Barclays in New Jersey, McDowell said: "I hope Stevie does the job as that will throw the cat among the pigeons. With the Ryder Cup being in Scotland I wouldn't not begrudge him a spot."

Hunter Mahan won the FedEx play-off event by two from after a six-under 65 for 270. Aussies Jason Day and Stuart Appleby finished joint second with American Cameron Tringale.

Scotland's Russell Knox finished alongside McDowall with a 71.
