Future vision... but what about now? LETTERS.

RE: 'Strategic Planning: Timeline for developing an Integrated Medium Term Plan for 2019/22' to be presented to BCUHB Board Meeting September 6. "The 'Well-Being of Future Generations Act' requires us (BCUHB) to think more about long-term, work better with people, communities and other organisations, seek to prevent problems and take a more joined up approach. The Act puts in place seven well-being goals and we need to maximise all seven: a prosperous Wales; a resilient Wales; a healthier Wales; a more equal Wales; a Wales of cohesive communities; a Wales of vibrant culture and thriving Welsh language; a globally responsible Wales...

"A Healthier Wales: Our Plan for Health and Social Care (Welsh Government 2018)....sets out a long term future vision of a 'whole system approach to health and social care', focused on providing more services in people's own homes or as close as possible. There is a greater emphasis on preventing illness, early intervention and supporting people when they need it, including helping them live independently as long as possible...

"We are working with our partners as part of the Regional Partnership Board on developing the Regional Plan, including new models of care, in response to a 'Healthier Wales'. There is a clear expectation of greater integration of plans overall... we identify where we can work together to add value".

Future generations... long term future vision. What about here and now? Criccieth and Porthmadog have no permanent GP; crisis in Out of Hours GP services; ambulance delays; 40% wait over 4 hours in A&E; 2,277 wait over year for operation; inadequate critical care; 70,000 overdue outpatient follow up; unacceptable hospital infection rate; poor mental health service; stroke service not fit for purpose etc? Has the Health Board asked patients, doctors and nurses to review health priorities and objectives? "The Health Board did not listen sufficiently to its patients and staff or ensure correction of deficiencies brought to the Board's attention". (causes of Mid Staffs disaster, Francis Report 2013) Michael Joyce, Dolbenmaen.
