Fury as paedo gets pounds 6k for 'stress'.
A PAEDOPHILE has been awarded pounds 5,500 - because his late trial caused him "stress".
European judges said barrister Rupert Massey's human rights were breached since he waited more than four years to be tried on 16 charges of assaulting three young boys.
But much of the delay was caused by the pervert himself. Meanwhile, his tormented victims waited up to 27 YEARS to see him jailed.
Yesterday Dave Meek - just eight when he was first abused by Massey - raged: "This judgment defies all logic and justice.
"The payment is beyond what any sensible person would think is reasonable.
"And where were the judges when I was tearing my hair out at the delays?"
Peter Saunders, of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, added: "I'm bewildered.
"A convicted child abuser receiving compensation seems perverse."
Oxford-educated Massey, a 59-year-old father of three, abused the boys between 1972 and 1983 after befriending them on the beach in his home town of Poole, Dorset.
He was not arrested until 1995 when one of the victims complained. In December 1997, he was accused of the 16 assaults.
After repeated adjournments, his case came to trial in December 1999 when he was jailed for six years.
Lengthy delays were caused by his not guilty plea, his decision to have a time-consuming committal and the need for his trial to be moved to Wolverhampton because he was too well known in Dorset.
In December last year, the paedophile applied to the European Court of Human Rights for compensation for the court delays.
He claimed that his family life and career were affected.
Article Six of the European Convention on Human Rights says that all accused are entitled to a hearing "within a reasonable time".
Greedy Massey is now free and thought to be living in London.
At the time of Massey's conviction former Grange Hill star Mark Eadie came forward to tell how he also suffered secret abuse at the lawyer's hands.
