Funding boost for region's businesses.

Ian Bunting During 2016/17, according to recent figures published by Scottish Enterprise, more than PS2 million was awarded to a total of 14 Lanarkshire businesses.

This helped to create 169 new jobs and safeguard a further 33 posts across the region.

Councillor Allan Graham, convener of enterprise and housing committee at North Lanarkshire Council, told the Advertiser: "We welcome the news about the Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) funding awards to businesses in Lanarkshire.

"It has enabled projects to proceed, making possible a total public and private investment of around PS7 million into the Lanarkshire economy.

"RSA is a valuable source of grant funding for eligible businesses located in or locating to the Lanarkshire areas."

In comparison to other local authorities across Scotland, the North and South Lanarkshire areas combined saw the secondhighest number of businesses benefiting from an RSA funding boost, behind only Glasgow City Council.
