Fund, award memorialize George Brooker.

To honor the memory of George Brooker, the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) has established a teaching fund and a professional award in his name. Steve Spinola, president of REBNY, made the announcement.

The George Brooker Teachers for Tomorrow Fund will sponsor internships enabling recent liberal arts college graduates to teach in East Harlem's District Four. The program's goal is to recruit motivated, gifted young people to teach in inner city schools; REBNY plans to raise some $300,000 over two years through the Fund to finance the program.

Board members who have each sponsored a teaching internship include Leonard Litwin, Bernard Mendik, Burton Resnick, Frederick Rose, Sheldon Solow and Jerry Speyer. Contributions should be sent to The REBNY Foundation, The Real Estate Board of New York, 12 East 41st Street, New York, New York 10017, attention: Ms. Marolyn Davenport, vice president.

The Board's Management Person of the Year Award, presented annually at REBNY's January Banquet, will be renamed the George Brooker Management Person of the Year Award. Brooker, the first Board member to win this accolade, served as vice president for REBNY's Management Division from 1979 until his passing on August 18th.

Commenting on the memorial awards, Spinola said, "These memorials honor two of George Brooker's most intense concern: advancing the well-being of inner city young people, and maintaining high standards in the profession of real estate management. His splendid example inspires us to continue pursuing these important objectives. We believe George would be very proud of these efforts."
