Tokyo, Oct 17, 2012 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that its new ARROWS ef smartphone, manufactured by Fujitsu Mobile Communications, will be available in Japan beginning November 2, 2012 from KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company.

With support for au's 4G LTE ultra-high-speed data communications service, ARROWS ef features a simple, compact design while delivering a host of capabilities, including a high-performance dual-core CPU, an updated version of the Fujitsu Human Centric Engine, and a high-performance camera that can capture beautiful photographs in low light, as well as NX!eco, which aids in power conservation, and a scratch- and fingerprint-resistant "Ultra Toughguard plus" coating.

As smartphones become the mainstream of the mobile phone market, they offer an increasingly diverse array of capabilities. At the same time, given the expanding user base for smartphones, there is a greater need for models that a wide range of customers can use with ease.

As a full-spec smartphone equipped with an exhaustive range of high-tech capabilities, including support for au's 4G LTE ultra-high-speed data communications service, ARROWS ef also offers a simple and engaging design at an affordable price, making it appealing to a wide range of customers. ARROWS ef is available in three colors: Soft Blue, Solid Black, and Pink Gold.

Product Features

-- Ultra-high-speed "4G LTE" data communications service

This smartphone offers ultra-high-speed communications capable of downstream speeds of up to 75Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 25Mbps(1), thereby allowing users to enjoy mobile communications of unprecedented speed. The handset also supports tethering, which helps enable convenient Internet connectivity.

-- High-performance dual-core CPU boasting advanced processing power

ARROWS ef's CPU gives users smooth high-resolution video playback, games, web browsing, and a variety of other applications that require high-speed processing.

-- Human Centric Engine

The new smartphone comes with an updated and improved version of the Fujitsu Human Centric Engine technology, which delivers optimal usability through cutting-edge sensing technology. In addition, the handset is equipped with newly added features such as "Awaseru View," which adjusts the display's color based on the user's age, and a support feature that enables worry-free operations by preventing mistaken input from inadvertent touches, even if the user's fingers accidentally touch the edge of the screen.

-- Smart fingerprint sensor

With the built-in smart fingerprint sensor, the phone's security lock can be released by simply placing the finger of a pre-registered user on the sensor. The new sensor contains a switch that can turn the phone's screen on and off, making the process of turning on the screen and releasing the phone's security lock easier than ever. Moreover, the new sensor delivers even greater convenience when employed in combination with the phone's built-in security features, such as privacy mode and a password manager.

-- Advanced camera functionality

The smartphone's camera has been improved to more easily capture beautiful photographs. It offers an easy-to-use focus display and pinch-to-zoom adjustment feature, in addition to reducing blur, out-of-focus images, and other problems can be encountered when capturing pictures in low light. The camera also has a launch time and shot-to-shot wait time of about 0.5 seconds. As a result, users never miss out on capturing the perfect moment with a snapshot.

The camera also supports a variety of features that make photography convenient and fun, such as Art Camera mode, which allows users to enjoy diverse photographic effects, and high dynamic range (HDR) compositing, which is found on digital cameras.

-- Full-spec capabilities

The compact and easy-to-carry handset comes loaded with a host of convenient features, including an NX!eco app for centrally managing energy-saving settings, a scratch- and fingerprint-resistant "Ultra Toughguard plus" coating on the rear of the phone, IPX5/8 water resistance and IP5X dust resistance(2), DLNA connectivity, 1seg broadcast reception, Osaifu-Keitai(R), and infrared communications.

(1) Downstream speeds of up to 75Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 25Mbps:

Please refer to au's homepage for a list of compatible service areas. As the service employs the best-effort delivery method, speeds even within service areas may decrease depending on the communications environment and network traffic.

(2) IPX5/8 water resistance and IP5X dust resistance:

- [Water resistance] IPX5: Please ensure that the cap and battery covers are firmly closed. Users should refrain from immersion in seawater, pool water, and hot spring water. The IPX5 designation indicates that the smartphone can normally function after being sprayed with water from a nozzle with a diameter of 6.3 mm at a rate of 12.5 liters per minute from a distance of approximately 3 m for a period of at least 3 minutes.

- IPX8: IPX8 designation indicates that the smartphone functions normally after being immersed in room-temperature tap water to a depth of 1.5 m for 30 minutes.

- [Dust resistance] IP5X: The IP5X rating indicates, as a degree of protection, that the smartphone can be left in an environment with dust particles with a diameter of 75 micro-m and still function and remain safe to use. Please do not leave the device in the sand.
