Fugitive made cop fear for life.

A DETECTIVE told a court he thought he could die when a Midland fugitive rammed into him with his car near Heathrow Airport.

Det Con Matthew Millward said: "I was scared. I thought possibly this could be my last day."

He told the Old Bailey how Rashpal Singh, of West Bromwich, had been caught in a police trap after being on the run from prison.

But, as officers approached his car in November, 2007, Singh reversed, catapulting Det Con Catherine Corbett into the air, and striking Det Con Millward as he drove over a verge, causing minor injuries.

Singh, 43, denies causing Det Con Corbett grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of actual bodily harm to Det Con Millward and Det Con Stefan Wojcieszyn, and dangerous driving. He had been jailed for six years for fraud but was on the run. The trial was adjourned until tomorrow.
