Fuel tanker runs aground in Canada.

Summary: A fuel tanker has run aground in the far north of Canada but none of the diesel it was carrying is believed to have spilled.

A fuel tanker loaded with nine million litres of diesel fuel has run aground in the far north of Canada but none of the fuel is believed to have spilled.

The Canadian Coast Guard reported the tanker was hung up on a sandbar southwest of the community of Gjoa Haven in the territory of Nunuvut.

The vessel, owned by Woodward's Oil, was carrying the diesel to supply villages in the region, the report said.

Coast Guard officials were not immediately available to comment.
