Fuel down, sugar up in Kabul.

by Zarghona Salehi on 10 July, 2014 - 15:08 KABUL (Pajhwok): The price of fuel declined and sugar edged up in Kabul, where rates of other daily-use commodities stayed unchanged during the outgoing week, market sources said on Thursday. The rate of one litre of petrol decreased to 60afs by two afghanis from last week's price of 62afs. A litre of diesel sold for 61afs against last week's rate of 62afs. A filling station worker in Kabul, Abdul Saboor, told Pajhwok Afghan New the decrease was linked to international market trends. The rate of gas remained unchanged. A gas seller, Mohammad Sharif, said one kilogram of gas was sold for 65 afghanis -- the same as last week. Food Traders' Union head, Haji Fazlur Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of a 50-kg bag of Pakistani sugar jumped from 1,700afs to 1,750afs. But the rates of other food items stayed stable. A 50-kg bag of Pakistani flour accounted for 1,250afs, a five-kg can of Momin ghee for 380afs, a kilo of African black tea for 210afs and green tea for 160afs -- the same rates as last week. But wholesale prices varied from retail rates in some parts of the city. Khan Ali, a shopkeeper in the Dahan-I-Bagh locality, sold a 50-kg sack of Pakistani sugar at 2,050afs and a 50-kg bag of Brazilian rice for 2,200afs. Similarly, he sold a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 450afs, a kilogram of green tea for 260afs and a kilogram of black African tea for 280afs. Abdul Baseer, a jeweller in upscale Lycee-i-Maryam locality, said gold prices stayed stable. One gram of Arabian gold sold for 2,000afs and the same amount of the Iranian variety for 1,700afs.
