Fuel Tech Appoints Robert E. Puissant Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

WARRENVILLE, Ill. -- Fuel Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ: FTEK) today announced that Mr. Robert E. Puissant has been named Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, reporting directly to Mr. John F. Norris Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer.

In making the announcement, Mr. Norris stated, "We are delighted to be adding to the ranks of Fuel Tech's senior management team an individual with the breadth of experience of Bob Puissant. Bob not only brings 28 years of progressive leadership responsibility in sales and marketing, but a proven track record of growing businesses in a number of industries with diverse technology products and services. We believe his extensive experience, including initiatives in China as well as senior positions with one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, will prove invaluable as Fuel Tech seeks to increase market penetration and achieve strong growth from its expanded suite of technologies."

Mr. Norris continued, "In this newly created position, Bob will be responsible for refining and implementing sales and marketing programs for the Company's Air Pollution Control and FUEL CHEM([R]) technology segments. In particular, he will lead our world-wide strategic market analyses and marketing plan development and the aggressive implementation of the resulting sales and marketing initiatives."

Puissant, age 56, most recently served as an Operating Executive for School Specialty, Inc., where he had P&L responsibility for the second largest business unit of this $1 billion education company serving the PreK - 12 market. Bob also held the position of Executive Vice President, Strategy and Business Development for this firm, where he was also responsible for acquisitions and divestitures. Prior to that, Bob was employed by Wisconsin Energy Corporation, where he held the positions of Senior Vice President, Customer Analysis and Planning and Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Planning. In related energy industry involvement, he held Advisory Board of Director roles with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition (NGVC). He also held a number of positions during a 20-year span at Novell, Inc., Inacom Corporation and Ameritech Corporation. Bob earned a B.S. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin and an M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management - Northwestern University, with emphasis in Marketing, Sales Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness.
