Frustration as Reading hold on to lead; LAST TIME HERE.

BORO 0 READING 1 The Championship August 30, 2014 BORO bossed possession and had plenty of chances but couldn't claw back an early Reading goal and ran out of steam and ideas.

The visitors for their part were content to dig deep and hang on and had the Riverside crowd howling with frustration after they started to play for time midway through the first half.

Simon Cox scored in Reading's first attack after seven minutes as Edwards cross took a fortunate deflection and the striker controlled well and chipped over stranded Tomas Meijas from 15 yards out.

After that Reading sat deep and Boro worked but they couldn't find the killer touch they needed to make it count.

Kike went close before the break as he got into the box but his angled effort came back off the keeper's chest.

Then the Spaniard did well to hold up a Lee Tomlin ball and lay it off for Albert Adomah but his low shot was deflected behind off the shins of Pearce.

Boro almost grabbed the leveller on 64 minutes as Adam Reach cross from the left clipped defender Gunter then with the keeper stranded it hit the post and bounced clear.

New boy Patrick Bamford later poked wide on his debut.

BORO: Mejias; Abella, Omeruo, Hines (Williams 76), Friend; Leadbitter (c), Clayton (Whitehead 76), Adomah, Reach; Tomlin (Bamford 59), Kike. Subs: Konstantopoulos, Ledesma, Gibson, Ayala.
